Author George Dawes Green Photographed in his New York apartment.

I recently had the privilege to meet and photograph acclaimed author and southern gentleman George Dawes Green, for an article publicizing the release of his new book RAVENS. Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot.

George Dawes Green is a charismatic individual, highly acclaimed novelist, poet and founder of The Moth, a non-for-profit storytelling organization, which has always and continues to draw listeners like moths to a flame. With no advertising, through sheer word of mouth, every show to date has soldout in 48 hours or less. Stories, either verbally or written, are one of the ways George has shared his southern roots, upbringing and traditions with New York City and beyond. George is truly a bridge, who not only divides his time between New York and Georgia, but contributes vastly to each setting.

I met him in his east village apartment, which was full of antiques, books and all of the items which appear in the photographs. George's apartment revealed his savoring and appreciation of artful living and I found that photographing him in this setting was a perfect window into this gifted narrator. His intelligence and wit were evident, yet not flaunted. He was warm, easy to work with and had a certain ease about him, combined with contagious enthusiasiam for The Moth, for reading, for people, and for life.
